John Dissed: Press
LA “guitarist turned singer-songwriter” John Dissed, who offers a private collection of 25 coversongs free to anyone who joins his mailing list, has fast become a darling of the coverblogs, having in recent months appeared on both Cover Me’s Cover Commissions and Coverville’s gloriously vibrant and entirely free Spinal Tap Tribute Compilation [yes, I said Spinal Tap Tribute Compilation]. The former, a solid cover of T Rex’s Bang A Gong, is off topic, albeit worth the visit. The latter, however, is right on and relevant.
LUNA KAFE -- John Dissed is guitarist with the punk band Bull Lee whom I've reviewed here before. His solo EP is entirely acoustic and reflects a more sensitive side than you'd find with his regular band. "Future's Bright" is downright optimistic and sweet. "Sundown Sometime" is more strident and offers some neat guitar playing. Dissed has a battle-scarred but distinctive voice that comes across well here. "Next to You" ends the EP on a high note, Dissed singing of missing his love. It's a very nice little EP and an interesting change of pace for Dissed. Let's hope he explores it further sometime.
